1 THESSALONIANS 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Footnote (in the LDS scriptures): 22 b appearance: GR kinds.

The greek word is "eidos." In today's speech "kind" is a better word. Meaning "form," "essence," "type," or "species"
22 απο παντος ειδους πονηρου απεχεσθε

(So the scripture should read "Abstain from all kinds of evil." It does not mean to avoid things that are not evil but look similar to things that are evil. If it's not evil, don't abstain from it.
